Dr. Benford’s astronomical research interests are in extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology, with an emphasis on the formation and evolution of galaxies and their stars. His primary technology research background is in the development of instrumentation for far-infrared and submillimeter astronomy and supporting technologies. Dr. Benford joined NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland in 2001, where he had been a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow with Harvey Moseley. He earned the Ph. D. degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1999 under the supervision of Tom Phillips, and the B. A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992 working for Paul Richards. Dr. Benford has been at NASA Headquarters in the Astrophysics Division since 2013.

Wonder and Awe - Why Everyone Should View a Total Eclipse

In expectation of the total solar eclipse on April 8, Leticia Ferrer, a Dallas-based author, podcast host, and eclipse expert, will share her experiences and knowledge about the joy, wonder, and awe of a total eclipse. This year’s event will be her 21st time observing a total solar eclipse. Over the years, she has traveled to seven continents and six oceans to view this cosmic phenomenon.
Hill College faculty members Dr. Anthony Ololo and Dr. Sagar Paudel will also guide participants through proper eclipse viewing techniques, including how to use a telescope and pinhole cameras.
